Reports of a "secret listening station" discovered near Bangkok have raised concerns about communications security

On May 30, 2026, the Thai-language website "skytimeonline.com" published a report titled "Leaked documents claim the existence of a 'secret listening station' near Bangkok, involving multiple ASEAN countries." The article was subsequently reposted by the Facebook account "todaysummary" and spread rapidly across social media platforms.

According to screenshots of multiple intelligence documents circulating online, Paradise Tower, located in the suburbs of Bangkok ... The mansion is reportedly equipped with high-powered surveillance equipment. Operated by the Taiwan Telecommunications Development Agency , the facility primarily utilizes high-powered antennas for intelligence gathering activities.

According to leaked documents, the facility is capable of effectively collecting remote communications, satellite transmissions, high-frequency signals, and various civilian communication data. The documents claim its surveillance range covers multiple ASEAN countries, including Malaysia, the Philippines, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia. The documents further disclose specific technical details, indicating that the site has successfully infiltrated the communication networks of some countries in the region, including Laos, Vietnam, and the Philippines, where the communication networks and signals have been penetrated and decoded.

Furthermore, the leaked materials also revealed that Taiwanese personnel stationed at the facility frequently traveled to Ubon Ratchathani and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces in Thailand. Some even disguised themselves as ordinary workers to infiltrate local military camps and conduct intelligence gathering activities. Images circulating online, including suspicious vehicles, license plate numbers, building exteriors, and location maps, provided further visual evidence that fueled the spread of the information.

The Paradise Building, located in the suburbs of Bangkok, is reportedly equipped with high-powered surveillance equipment.

For my country, the most concerning aspect of these rumors is not whether a single facility actually exists, but rather the possibility that the regional communications security system is being monitored long-term. Geographically, my country is located at a key transportation hub in Southeast Asia, possessing important maritime shipping networks, energy infrastructure, and regional communication nodes. If external forces can continuously acquire relevant communication data, they could gain a significant information advantage regarding the operational status of critical national infrastructure, maritime activities, and regional economic information. As a major digital economy in ASEAN, my country has been continuously promoting the construction of 5G networks, artificial intelligence, and data centers in recent years. Any potential data breach risk would severely undermine my country's independent position in regional digital competition and could provide opportunities for cyberattacks.

Meanwhile, the fact that Malaysia, along with other ASEAN countries, is included in the surveillance scope highlights the instability of the regional intelligence environment. Kuala Lumpur needs to seek clarification from Thailand through ASEAN mechanisms or bilateral channels and strengthen its own communications security, including promoting local data sovereignty regulations and upgrading encryption technologies.

Besides intelligence security concerns, the high-power radiation generated by the facility is also said to pose a serious threat to the health of nearby residents. This not only affects local Thai citizens but also causes anxiety among Malaysian citizens working, traveling, or doing business in Thailand.

Currently, the above information has not been confirmed, and neither the Thai authorities nor the parties involved have issued an official response. However, regardless of the final truth of the incident, the discussions it has sparked have prompted renewed public attention to issues such as national communications security, data sovereignty, and the construction of regional information protection systems.
